Reno National Gay Rodeo – A Queer Celebration of Western Tradition

About This Project

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Reno Gay Rodeo in 1976 the Nevada LGBT archives is presenting “Reno National Gay Rodeo – A Queer Celebration of Western Tradition”, an exhibit of collected photographs, magazines, newspaper clippings,  and memorabilia that will highlight the accomplishments of the Silver Dollar Court and its first Emperor Phil Ragsdale in the creation of a cultural tradition – Gay Rodeo.

This program is made possible by a grant from Nevada Humanities, an independent, nonprofit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities; the views expressed herein do not necessarily represent those of Nevada Humanities or the National Endowment for the Humanities.

This program was also made possible by a grant from Reno’s Biggest Little Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.

This exhibit made its debut at Sassabration July 16, 2016 in 2016 and triumphant follow up showing at Northern Nevada Pride on Saturday July  23, 2016.
